Centenary Book of the Gipuzkoa Football Federation

The Centenary Book of the Gipuzkoa Football Federation is a major editorial and institutional project, conceived to celebrate one hundred years of history of an institution founded in 1918 and fundamental to the development and organisation of football in Gipuzkoa. It was a complex commemorative piece that needed to go far beyond a traditional book and become a complete editorial object, capable of conveying identity, legacy and emotion.

Our work covered the entire creative, editorial and physical project, with the exception of the written content. The texts and interviews were developed by Manuel Harina, with whom we worked in coordination alongside Ale, collaborating closely on the overall conceptualisation of the book, its structure, format and the diversification of the pieces that would make up the commemorative set.

Thanks to this joint work, and to the access provided by the Federation, an extensive historical photographic and documentary archive was compiled, which was subsequently digitised, processed and adapted for integration into the editorial project.

On our side, we were responsible for the complete design and conceptualisation of the project, beginning with the box containing the commemorative pack, conceived as a narrative element in its own right. The box was designed with a background evoking a football pitch, from which the stands of the former Atotxa Stadium could be seen, establishing a direct connection with the historical memory of football in Gipuzkoa.

We designed and laid out the centenary book in two editions, one in Basque and the other in Spanish, paying close attention to the editorial structure, visual rhythm, content hierarchy and graphic treatment. This work included the digitisation and retouching of historical photographs, as well as the design of cover graphics and all the visual elements that make up the book’s artistic language.

The project was expanded with the design of a commemorative sticker album, inspired by classic albums, featuring the football grounds and teams of all the entities that make up the Gipuzkoa Football Federation. We designed both the album and the stickers themselves, conceived as adhesive stickers, as well as the grid system for their placement, reinforcing the nostalgic and collectible nature of the set.

In addition, we designed the kits, the stickers themselves, a sticker-shaped USB drive containing all the digitised content, and a series of commemorative centenary posters, all integrated within the same graphic and conceptual universe.

A fundamental part of the project was working closely with the printing company from a very early stage. We were responsible for the creation of the physical book mock-up, the selection of materials and finishes, colour proofs and technical adjustments, carrying out all the necessary tests to ensure a final result worthy of an institutional project of this scale.

The result is a complete commemorative pack, carefully considered down to the smallest detail, combining editorial design, art direction, historical memory and physical production. To conclude the project, the packs were presented during a centenary commemorative gala held in Gipuzkoa, reinforcing the institutional and symbolic nature of the work and turning the set into an object of collective celebration and recognition.

A project that demonstrates our ability to take on complex work, coordinate multiple pieces and support the entire process from the initial idea through to its final production.
